Some relationships can involve behaviour that is harmful to one or both people. Abusive relationships usually involve one partner feeling unsafe and frightened of the other partner.

Warning signs that you could be in an abusive relationship
Here are some potential warning signs that you might be in an abusive relationship. This list doesn’t cover every possible scenario, but might give you an idea of what to look out for.
You feel worried around your partner
You feel pressured by your partner
You’re careful not to make your partner angry
Your partner controls one or more areas of your life
You partner threatens to hurt themselves if you leave them
Your partner humiliates or embarrasses you in public
You’re scared of disagreements
Your partner’s jealousy stops you from seeing friends and family
Your partner makes excuses for their abusive behaviour
Your partner intimidates you
Who can help?
It’s hard to acknowledge when somebody you love intentionally scares, controls or hurts you. But if this is happening to you, it’s important to get help.
Talk to somebody if you feel that something isn’t right in your relationship
If you’re scared or feeling unsafe, don’t be afraid to talk about it with somebody you trust.
